The Wuhan marathon, which was supposed to take place today, was postponed at the last minute due to a resumption of infections from Covid-19 in China, and in view of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
China has reported 26 new cases interior of Covid-19, an outbreak that has become the latest test of the country's 'zero tolerance' approach just over 100 days after the start of the Games.
The organizers of the Wuhan marathon said the marathon has been postponed to a later date "to prevent the risk of spreading the epidemic".
The event would bring 26,000 participants in various races, including a full marathon and a half marathon, to Wuhan in the city where the coronavirus was first identified in late 2019. The organizing committee said it will reimburse competitors the registration fees.
