This warning to consumers is remarkable: if you bought the counterfeit coffee, you should take it to a police station.

Frankfurt am Main - There is currently a counterfeit product of Nestlé's soluble coffee in circulation, which may contain broken glass and plastic.

The group is therefore starting a recall.

The product was neither manufactured nor sold by Nestlé, but looks deceptively similar to an older product version of its Nescafé Gold premium blend.

The world's largest food company shows whether the criminal activity is shocked and warns consumers about the product.

Counterfeit Nestlé product: Criminal activity could be dangerous for consumers

The shape of the glass has not been used for coffee for several years.

Fakes of it turned up anyway and were sold at weekly markets as well as in smaller shops - possibly nationwide.

Nestlé is already in contact with the relevant authorities and has asked them to investigate and stop the criminal activity.

The counterfeit is identified as follows:

  • Product: NESCAFE GOLD premium blend in a 200g glass

  • EAN code: 405500210900

  • Batch number: 60820814B1 9:15

  • Best before: 10.2021

Should consumers come across the counterfeit glasses, consumption is strongly discouraged.

Depending on the size and nature of the glass and plastic splinters, cuts in the oral cavity, esophagus and gastrointestinal tract and thus internal bleeding cannot be ruled out.

In addition, swallowing foreign bodies can lead to shortness of breath and the risk of suffocation.

Nestlé comments on the Nescafé counterfeit: "We are shocked"

The dangerous products should be handed over to the nearest police station with an indication of the counterfeit and the place and time of purchase.

Meanwhile, Nestlé is dismayed: “All Nescafé branded products are safe that are made by Nestlé.

We are shocked by the criminal activities and deeply condemn the fact that our brand has been illegally counterfeited and marketed.

The quality and safety of our products have top priority for us ”, so it can be read on the website of the food company.
