(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 24 - The tragedy of war and a smile that tears away all the horror in an instant. Munzir al-Nazzal is a mutilated father in the Syrian conflict who embraces his son Mustafa, born without legs or arms. The two smile, managing to be happy at least for a moment despite the drama that has enveloped them for a decade, in a spiral of violence and blood that never seems to end.
Munzir and Mustafa were immortalized by the Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan in a 'photo of the year' shot at the Siena international photo awards 2021 which has already traveled around the world, also ending up on the pages of the authoritative Washington Post. "We wanted to bring attention to this" drama, Aslan said, hoping to be able to help the little one in this way.
His family fled Syria three years ago and now, like hundreds of thousands of other refugees, they are in the southern border regions of Turkey.
