Ecomondo, the Italian exhibition of the green economy, is back on Tuesday 26 in Rimini.

After skipping the 2020 edition for Covid (only one virtual event was held), Ecomondo is back in attendance at the Rimini Fair from 26 to 29 October, simultaneously with the fair dedicated to renewable energy Key Energy.

The event takes place as usual on two strands.

On the one hand, the stands of over a thousand Italian but also Northern European green economy companies.

On the other hand, a rich series of conferences on all themes of the sustainable economy.

On the 26th, as part of the fair, the States General of the Green Economy will be held, an annual event promoted by the 68 business organizations gathered in the National Council of the Green Economy, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Foundation for Sustainable Development. chaired by Edo Ronchi. Unpublished research will be presented, with a focus on digitization and ecological transition in Italy.

Ecomondo returns in a completely changed framework for the green economy, compared to the last edition in the presence of 2019. Today there are 59.33 billion euros of the NRRR for the ecological transition to be spent (plus another billion from the Complementary Fund). Then there is the new decarbonisation target set by the EU, the Fit for 55: to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990. An ambitious and difficult to achieve target, which requires Italy to install in 9 years 70 gigawatts of renewable sources. Almost 8 per year, when today barely 0.8 are installed.

In the background, there is the updating of the decarbonisation commitments of the individual states of the world (Ndc, Nationally determined Contributions).

Commitments made in 2015 under the Paris Agreement, and today no longer sufficient to keep global warming within 2 degrees of pre-industrial levels (the minimum target of the Agreement).

The updating of the NDCs will be the theme of the next UN climate conference, the COP26 in Glasgow, from 1 / o to 12 November, but it will also be discussed at the G20 in Rome on 30 and 31 October.

The Big 20 alone represent 80% of world greenhouse gas emissions and 85% of global GDP: their decision in Rome will also be fundamental for Glasgow, but above all for world economic choices.

Finally, cyclone Greta has also changed the scenario of the Italian and world green economy.

The young Swedish activist has made young and old people aware of the problem of the climate crisis, and this directly affects the economy: from the changed purchasing choices, to the pressure on politicians and businesses towards eco-sustainable choices.
