Unvaccinated players will be able to compete in the Australian Open tennis but will first need to complete 14 days of quarantine at the hotel, according to a WTA email leaked today, although a government official insisted that the matter has not yet been resolved.

The rules would probably apply to the men's tournament as well, leaving the door open to world number one Novak Djokovic, who never wanted to let people know if he was vaccinated or not, so that he could defend his title at Melbourne Park in January.

The email, addressed to the governing body of the women's tournament, came into the hands of New York Times tennis reporter Ben Rothenberg, who posted it on Twitter, and contradicts previous statements by authorities that insinuated that female players do not vaccinated the visa would not have been granted.

The e-mail states, in contrast, that players fully vaccinated against the coronavirus will enjoy "complete freedom of movement," while those who are not vaccinated can participate but must undergo a two-week mandatory hotel quarantine and undergo regular testing.
