The "city of 15 minutes": the model for a sustainable city comes from Paris, which is increasingly spoken of in Italy as well.
The idea was also advanced for Rome, in the election campaign of the new mayor Roberto Gualtieri The "city of 15 minutes" is a concept developed by the Franco-Colombian urban planner of the Sorbonne Carlos Moreno, and inserted in 2020 in the electoral program of the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, later re-elected.
Gualtieri took up the idea in his electoral campaign, and even the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala agreed with this vision.
The "ville du quart d'heure" plans to reorganize urban spaces so that citizens can find everything they need to live within 15 minutes on foot from home: work (including co-working), shops, health facilities , schools, sports facilities, cultural spaces, bars and restaurants, meeting places. In this way, people do not have to take the car or public transport, reducing traffic and pollution, regaining possession of the time lost in travel and rediscovering the sociability in their neighborhood.
According to an Ipsos survey for Legambiente published in recent days, Italians really like the "City of 15 minutes" on foot, with proximity services, and even like the policies of almost total limitation of the circulation of cars and motorcycles.
However, the majority of respondents believe that this is an "unrealistic" project.
