Eggshells usually end up in the trash immediately.

But if you like to work as a hobby gardener, you should give the leftovers a chance.

Establishing a small garden is not only time-consuming, it also requires the right equipment.

If you want to save some money here, all you need to do is look around your own kitchen: Eggshells are great for growing seeds.

Egg shells in the garden: this is how you make your own nursery pots

If you want to grow different types of vegetables from seeds yourself in spring, you need small growing pots.

These are usually available in garden centers or hardware stores - but also in your own refrigerator, if you like.

Instead of simply throwing away

your

eggshells after breakfast, you can simply use them to

grow your plants

.

This is how it works:

  • It is best to take

    the shell of boiled eggs

and be careful not to damage the lower half too much when opening.

Then wash the bowls with water.

  • Now poke a small hole in the bottom of these eggshells with a needle.

This serves as a water drainage, so that later watering does not lead to waterlogging.

  • Place the eggshells in an egg carton and fill them with potting soil.

  • Now put in the seeds of your choice.

Press it down lightly and sprinkle the floor with a little water.

  • Cover your "nursery pots" with cling

    film

and place them on a sunny window sill so that the humidity remains high.

This creates a suitable climate for growing seeds.

Make sure the seeds are given some water on a regular basis.

  • When the first seedlings have formed, they should be pricked out so as not to take away space from each other.

All seedlings are given their own pot - or eggshell.

Why you should water your plants with beer

The eggshells can also be repotted - they decompose over time and thus supply the plant with

    calcium and potassium

    .

The same applies to egg water: contained in the irrigation water, you can treat your plants to calcium fertilization once a week.
