Waldorf salad

is a classic

salad in

American cuisine and has nothing to do with Waldorf education.

The name is derived from its place of origin, the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

This was founded by the descendants of emigrants from Waldorf (in Baden).

Back to the salad: This convinces with

autumn and winter ingredients rich in vital substances

such as celeriac or celery, apples, walnuts and grapes.

Recipe for Waldorf Salad: You need these ingredients

Preparation time: 15 minutes


Difficulty level: easy

  • 3 celery stalks or 1 small celery bulb

  • 2 small apples (sour variety like Braeburn or Elstar)

  • 1 handful of grapes

  • 1 handful of walnuts

  • 100 g natural yogurt

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • salt and pepper

Waldorf salad: autumnal recipe with seasonal ingredients

  • Clean and cut the celery stalks into small pieces.

    Or peel the celeriac and coarsely grate it.

  • Wash, core and cut the apples into cubes.

    Cut the grapes in half.

    Roughly chop the nuts.

  • For the dressing, mix the yogurt with lemon juice, salt and pepper.

    Put all the prepared ingredients and dressing in a bowl and mix thoroughly.

  • Tip:

    Let the Waldorf salad sit for a few hours, then it will taste even better.
