Covid-19: the government is launching a toll-free number for home vaccinations for seniors

2021-10-26T22:37:47.006Z

To boost the vaccination of the most vulnerable, the government is deploying a new device that will be dedicated to the over 80s.

It is a new toll-free number which falls within the framework of the policy of ... "going to".

While 10% of those aged 75 and over have not yet received any dose of the vaccine, the government is announcing the launch of a new toll-free number (0 800 730 957) available every day from 6 to 10 p.m.

This is aimed at seniors over 80 years old, more than 500,000 people, the most vulnerable to the coronavirus, and their relatives in order to quickly obtain an injection of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The same age groups but with the same size charts.

This line is entirely dedicated to them.

“These people are less followed by an attending physician and encounter difficulties in getting around,” worries the Ministry of Solidarity and Health.

"A family caregiver, a home help, or any other person ready to help the elderly" can call for a home vaccination, an appointment with the attending physician or with a city nurse is offered.

"This lever among many others", as clarified by the entourage of Olivier VĂ©ran, is added to the arsenal of measures put in place such as home vaccination or sending letters with vaccination slots. available, accompanied by a transport voucher to get there.

Systems tested in Vaucluse or Seine-Saint-Denis in particular.

Less vaccinated than younger classes

In Seine-Maritime, letter carriers, considered as “trustworthy” people for isolated people (especially the oldest), are invited to collect information from those over 80 in order to “identify the brakes” to the problem. vaccination.

Depending on the answers to the questions asked, either a vaccination appointment is immediately offered to them, or a nurse is put in the loop in order to perform the injection at home, or the Health Insurance "takes over" in order to organize an exchange with a doctor.

At the end of August, the government explained that each elderly person is supposed to have been contacted by telephone, SMS or mail by Health Insurance, and a million French people had been vaccinated by this "go to" device.

Because these older audiences are more likely to be hospitalized and to develop serious forms.

However, this age group remains less vaccinated than other younger ones.

This device could also make it possible to speed up the third dose campaign to which 2.5 million people (out of the 6 million targeted) have already responded.

We can only hope that it is more successful than the previous toll-free number, set up last winter, when appointments were difficult to access.
