(ANSAmed) - ROME, OCTOBER 26 - More than two weeks after the Iraqi legislative elections on October 10, there are still no definitive results due to a series of appeals presented by losing political groups in various seats in the country. In these polling stations tomorrow the counting will begin by hand, the media in Baghdad said this morning.
In recent days, the Iraqi High Electoral Commission has been waiting to collect all requests for appeal and have examined them. The procedures for manual counting of the cards have been established for the accepted requests.
Meanwhile, the Shiite formations closest to Iran have been holding sit-ins and protests in the super-fortified Green Zone of Baghdad for days to denounce fraud.
According to the electoral results still not final, these armed political groups have lost more than half of the 48 seats in parliament obtained in the 2018 elections.
The radical Shiite leader Moqatada Sadr emerged instead as the main winner of the elections (73 seats out of 329), followed by by the president of the Sunni parliament Muhammad Halbusi (37 seats) and by that of the former prime minister Nuri alMaliki, close to Iran (34 seats).
