The district court of Erfurt has sentenced a 41-year-old to four years and nine months in prison for a racist attack in an Erfurt tram.
It found the defendants guilty of dangerous bodily harm, insult and damage to property, among other things.
"It's indescribable what actually happened there," said the judge.
The man's act was clearly to be classified as racist.
According to the judge, this was confirmed by testimony and, to a large extent, by the video that was circulating on social media.
Brutal attack on a tram
The defendant from Erfurt had been standing before the regional court since Thursday because he racially insulted and brutally attacked a young Syrian in a tram at the end of April.
From the court's point of view, the man with multiple criminal records attacked, hit and kicked the now 18-year-old.
The fact that the victim did not suffer any more serious physical injuries than bruises and a traumatic brain injury was also lucky for the defendant.
The verdict is not yet legally binding.
The defense announced that it would appeal.
