Since supermarkets in Lower Saxony and Hesse have been allowed to use the 2G rule, more and more retail chains have positioned themselves.

Now Edeka also speaks up.

Hamburg - Will only those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated soon be able to buy food? In view of the new 2G option, which first Lower Saxony and then Hesse granted retailers there, this question is quite legitimate. The supermarkets in these federal states have recently had the right to deny entry to people if they have not been vaccinated or have recovered. Other federal states could follow the example, especially since the German Retail Association (HDE) is in favor of a Germany-wide 2G option model in retail based on the Hessian model. The decisive factor now is whether supermarkets like Edeka, Lidl and Co. want to make use of their new right.

Many supermarkets had already responded publicly to the possibility of introducing a 2G rule in their branches.

The discounters Aldi Nord and Lidl as well as the stores of the Rewe Group (Rewe, Penny, Toom Baumarkt) positioned themselves negatively.

The Kaufland retail chain has already responded with a trend-setting statement.

Now Edeka is also commenting on the possible 2G rule.

2G rule in supermarkets?

Edeka: "We are aware of the important role"

Numerous customers previously requested a statement on the Facebook page of the German retail leader.

Edeka replied: “We are aware of the important role we play in supplying the population.

That is why the health and protection of our customers and employees are always our top priority. "

The overriding goal is to enable all consumers to shop safely, where they feel comfortable despite the challenging circumstances, explained Edeka in his statement.

Then the company became clear: “We want to continue making it possible for everyone to shop at Edeka.

Therefore, the 2G regulation is not an option for us. "

Edeka distances itself from the 2G rule in supermarkets - but leaves a back door open

Edeka is committed: “Our stores are still open to all customers.” As before, a comprehensive and proven hygiene concept applies to purchasing, which also includes compliance with the general AHA rule.

So: keep your distance, observe hygiene, everyday wear with a mask.

However, the retail group could not completely rule out isolated 2G regulations in its markets: Edeka is a cooperative association supported by around 3,600 independent merchants and seven regional wholesalers.

"The independent merchants decide on their own responsibility, always in accordance with the respective regional ordinances and legal requirements, about important measures in their markets."
