Bayern Munich were humiliated in the second round of the German Cup, overwhelmed 5-0 at Borussia Moenchengladbach.
It is Bayern's heaviest defeat in the German Cup, worse than a previous 5-1 in the quarterfinals in Cologne in 1972. "I'm absolutely shocked. We just weren't there," Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told the channel. German ARD.
"We have been dominated in all situations. A collective blackout".
Holding the competition record (20), Bayern had already been eliminated at this stage of the competition last year, but on penalties, against second division team Holstein Kiel.
Julian Nagelsmann's men, on the other hand, continued an impressive streak of 12 wins in 13 games, in all competitions.
They have only lost once this season in the league, to Eintracht Frankfurt at home (1-2) on 3 October.
At Borussia-Park in Moenchengladbach, Bayern, despite playing almost in the typical formation (Kingsley Coman entered the field in the second half), found themselves trailing 3-0 after only 21 minutes of play.
