Late on Monday evening there was a presumably politically motivated attack on a 36-year-old in Berlin-Spandau.
As the police announced on Tuesday, three strangers are said to have asked the man to chant "Free Palestine".
When he refused, they are said to have kicked and hit him and seriously injured his head.
Criminal Investigation Investigated
The 36-year-old lost consciousness for a short time.
The three attackers fled according to the information in different directions.
Witnesses to the incident alerted an ambulance that took the man to a hospital.
The slogan »Free Palestine« is considered anti-Israeli because it calls into question the right of the State of Israel to exist.
Nothing is known about a possible connection between the three men and the victim.
At the request of SPIEGEL, a police spokeswoman was also unable to provide any information about the victim's possible political activities or previous threats.
The police has started investigation.
