You can, but you don't have to.

Retailers are currently free to use the 2G option.

The discounters Aldi and Lidl are now taking a stand.

Munich - Since the beginning of the pandemic, things have been going back and forth.

Depending on the number of cases, the corona rules are tightened, relaxed and constantly readjusted.

This repeatedly creates confusion and uncertainty.

What can who, when, where?

2G or 3G, FFP2 mask off your nose, medical mask on, show your vaccination card or leave your mobile phone plugged in.

Consumers should expect anything and be prepared for any eventuality.

Now there is the new G2 option, which enables retailers to deny people access to stores if they are not vaccinated or have recovered.

This option was first granted in the federal states of Hesse and Lower Saxony, following a lawsuit brought by a seller of barbecue accessories.

Whether this decision is made, supermarkets and discounters can freely decide whether they only allow those who have recovered or have been vaccinated to shop with them.

Several companies have already announced their decision.

Aldi will not exclude individual customer groups

When asked by ZDF, the press spokesman for some discounters and supermarkets said they were rejecting the 2G option for retailers.

Unvaccinated people are likely to visit the branches in the future.

Aldi pointed out its obligations as a basic supplier, who should not exclude any “individual customer group from shopping”.

That would "fundamentally contradict our self-image of the reliable basic supplier", it says in the statement of the discounter.

Competitor Lidl has also positioned itself.

We will not implement this either in or outside of Hesse.

The well-known distance and hygiene rules as well as the mask requirement still apply in our branches. ”With this statement, the discounter rejects the 2G option in its branches and shares the opinion of other supermarket chains and retailers.
