N64 games on Nintendo Switch?

This dream comes true thanks to the new extended online membership.

But the performance of the games is a disaster.

Nintendo 64 games are now finally available via the online subscription for Nintendo Switch *.

Classics like "Zelda: Ocarina of Time" * or "Super Mario 64" can therefore also be played on the hybrid console.

Many fans have wanted this for a long time - but unfortunately Nintendo did not go to great lengths to implement it.

Shortly after the introduction of the new N64 feature, there were a number of players on social media who reported technical problems and difficulties with key assignments.

That begs the question of what exactly are people actually getting in exchange for the surcharge they have to pay for Switch Online's new premium tier.

The poor implementation of the Nintendo Switch ports does not justify this.

Nintendo Switch: N64 games have severe performance issues

The expansion package costs users a total of 39.99 euros per year - this corresponds to a

surcharge of 20 euros

compared to normal Nintendo Switch Online membership

.

In addition to the N64 collection, players will also get access to a number of Sega Genesis titles as well as the Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

At first glance, the additional offer sounds very exciting, but the fact that double the price is charged for it causes stomach ache even for the biggest Nintendo fanatics.

If the games were at least flawlessly ported, the price would be easier to justify - but as it turns out, that's not the case.

N64 classics like “Super Mario 64” are now over 20 years old and should actually run without any problems on a current console.

On Twitter, numerous players reported on their previous experiences with the expansion pack. The speedrunner "ZFG1" shared some screenshots showing the infamous water temple from "Zelda: Ocarina of Time". He juxtaposed two images of the versions of the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U Virtual Console. In fact,

the Switch variant has poorer representations of fog, distances and water

textures than on the Wii U. "It could actually be worse than the Wii U VC," ZFG1 judges on Twitter. Other players also complain about input delays, stuttering and other problems with the graphics and the sound. In addition, the controls cannot be adjusted in the N64 games.

Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack: Players hope for updates

The introduction of the new expansion package has got off to a very bumpy start.

Nintendo definitely has to make improvements here so that the additional subscription is really interesting for players.

This is currently not the case.
