But while French hospitals are in the throes of a real surge, the Minister of Solidarity and Health took the opportunity to reconsider the resignations that hit the public hospital.

“In the nursing profession, there are 1,300 registered resignations (…), said the minister.

“There is fatigue (…), caregivers who had to postpone their holidays during the successive waves, he further argued.
There are caregivers who have reached the end of what they were able to give and who (…) need to take a little time for themselves.
"But" this is not a French exception, "however assures Olivier Véran.
According to him, these resignations from the hospital are observed "everywhere in Europe and everywhere in the countries where we have faced with courage and a lot of professionalism" the Covid-19 pandemic.
20% of beds currently closed
According to a survey conducted by the President of the Scientific Council and the National Consultative Ethics Committee, Jean-François Delfraissy, nearly one in 5 available beds (20%) is currently closed in public hospitals in France.
A situation caused, among other things, by the shortage of nurses, caregivers and doctors exhausted by an endless health crisis.
This finding is all the more worrying as already in 2020, 5,800 beds had been closed, according to a report from the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees).
Since 2013, a total of 27,000 hospital beds have been closed, a drop of 6.5% in seven years, further notes the study.
Large hospitals would therefore be on the verge of collapse.
An investigation launched by the government
But according to the Minister of Health, "we are far from the 20% (of closed hospital beds) mentioned" in the survey conducted by Jean-François Delfraissy.
To convince, he evoked the specific situation of the hospital of Blois, in which he was: "Here, (...) there are in a conjunctural way five medical beds which were closed, out of 230 that this hospital counts" .
It is "always too much", he admits, however.
