Actually, the passengers of Flight 976 wanted to travel from New York City to Santa Ana in California last Wednesday evening.
However, the machine had to make an unscheduled landing in Denver, as American Airlines explained.
The background was therefore an attack on a flight attendant on board the machine.
One passenger reportedly slapped the flight attendant in the face at least twice.
Her nose was broken.
This is reported by the broadcaster CBS Los Angeles, among others, citing Paul Hartshorn Jr. of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, which represents more than 26,000 flight attendants from American Airlines.
The broadcaster CNN reports, citing a source who is familiar with the process, that the attack took place without any provocation.
American Airlines: Lifelong flight ban for attackers
The head of American Airlines spoke in a video message of a "violent assault" on a flight attendant.
It's "one of the worst displays of abusive behavior we've ever seen," said Doug Parker in the video posted online.
The woman is already on the mend.
In addition, she and her colleagues have been promised support.
Parker also said the attacker was banned from flying with the airline for life.
“And that's not enough.
We are doing everything in our power to ensure that he is prosecuted as harshly as possible. ”The man was arrested shortly after landing in Denver.
According to CNN, the FBI is investigating the case.
The Federal Aviation Administration has also announced investigations.
The airline says it is cooperating with the authorities.
"We are outraged about what happened on board according to the reports," said airline spokesman Curtis Blessing.
