Questioned Thursday evening in the Senate on the concrete repercussions of the lack of personnel and the closure of beds, the Minister Delegate for A

Are we now running the risk of being refused admission to the pediatric emergency room for our child?

"There is no sorting" in pediatric emergency services, assured Thursday evening before the Senate the Minister for Autonomy, Brigitte Bourguignon, while a collective aggregates increasingly numerous contrary testimonies , against the backdrop of a lack of staff and hospital beds.

"Children in emergency situations can no longer be taken care of by the competent services, leaving parents in great distress and children with chronic illnesses in unstable situations are sent home for lack of space," warned Thursday the Collective Inter-Hospitals, mobilized on this "catastrophic situation".

For Brigitte Bourguignon, the situation is serious… But not desperate.

"On pediatrics, for sure, there are tensions, we do not deny it", acknowledged Thursday evening the minister, in the government bench for the examination of the bill on "various provisions of health vigilance ".

"But there is no sorting, especially in emergencies," she said, adding that "it is out of the question not to take a child in a vital emergency".

"We were unable to accommodate five children in a vital emergency"

The Minister Delegate was questioned by the Senator (LR) of Haute-Savoie Sylviane Noël, who echoed the Inter-Hospitals Collective.

She claims to have been alerted by a representative of the collective "on the catastrophic situation of pediatric services in our country where children in a vital emergency can no longer be treated due to lack of staff".

"Today we are talking about sorting and loss of opportunity in these pediatric services," she insists.

In the corridors of hospitals, the absence of nursing staff is becoming glaring.

"In this month of October, we were unable to welcome five children in a vital emergency," Oanez Ackermann, from the pediatric hepatology department of the BicĂŞtre University Hospital Center, said Thursday morning at a press conference. (AP-HP) of which 10 out of 24 beds are now closed.

For Véronique Hentgen, pediatrician at the Versailles Hospital Center, there is no doubt: “it's sorting”.

And the doctor evoked in turn the postponement of surgery for a lymph node infection, the non-hospitalization of a child requiring an electroencephalogram for 24 hours, of another suffering from joint pain or the impossibility of asking insulin pumps "because there is no more room for hospitalization".
