(ANSA) - ROME, 01 NOV - "The G20 Summit in Rome, just concluded, has sent a strong signal of cohesion and determination of the international community. In order for the recovery to be sustainable and lasting, no geographic region of the planet must be left behind".

This was stated by Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, in his speech to the 'European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East'.

"A renewed attention to people, the planet and its prosperity is the key to a resilient and sustainable recovery, in line with the UN 2030 Agenda. In the wake of this priority - continued Di Maio - Italy, as Presidency of the G20, is committed to creating consensus around a series of measures necessary to face the pandemic emergency and to rebuild better ". "We have articulated proposals aimed at ensuring universal access to vaccines and COVID treatments, strengthening health systems, alleviating the burden of debt and providing fiscal space for economic recovery.

During the year - explained the minister - and with the approach of CoP26 in Glasgow - a process that Italiaco-presides with the United Kingdom - we have intensified our climate diplomacy to raise the global ambition towards a green conversion of industrial systems that combines economic growth and environmental protection "." We were inspired by the 'One Health' approach - he concluded -, which recognizes the interconnections between global health, the protection of biodiversity, the fight against climate change and the protection of animal health, and therefore aims to address these dimensions in an integrated way ".

The minister then underlined that "with this budget law, the funds destined for cooperation, for the first time in a long time, will grow by about 100 million euros in 2022, resources that we also expect to triple over the following three years".

Finally, he stated that "bridging the vaccination gap is essential to support economic recovery".
