Is a green mold on the cake a reason to throw it away?
Not so with moss cake, which makes it the perfect Halloween recipe.
Halloween is not far away. Do you already have all the snacks and recipes for the creepy party? If not, we have a great idea here:
moss cake
. The classic cake comes from the GDR era and, admittedly, looks a bit unusual: a white topping with green spots sits enthroned on a chocolate base. Reminds of mold? But it tastes great! And precisely because of its appearance, the moss cake is ideal for the
Halloween gourmet buffet
.
Especially people who do not know moss cake will be a little anxious to ask whether this should really be the case and whether you can eat the cake.
You can then explain to skeptics: The green is created by the reaction between the chlorogenic acid in the sprinkled coffee powder and the protein in the topping.
So the cake is not moldy, it should look like this.
You have baked this delicious, juicy moss cake in no time at all.

Baking moss cake: the perfect recipe for Halloween
Preheat the oven to 180 ° C top / bottom heat or 160 ° C fan oven.
For the dough,
mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
Grease the springform pan with butter or line the pan with baking paper.
Spread the batter in the springform pan and smooth it out.
Bake the chocolate base in the oven for about 25 minutes.
Then let it cool down.
For the topping,
let the coconut oil melt over low heat and cool slightly.
Beat the egg white with the powdered sugar using the hand mixer.
Then slowly stir in the coconut oil.
Spread the cream on the baked chocolate base.
For the mold effect:
Now use a sieve to sprinkle the coffee powder evenly thinly on the cream.
Leave the moss cake in a cool room (but not in the refrigerator!) Overnight.
The next morning you can see how nicely the "mold" has spread on the cake.
If you like it particularly creepy or disgusting, you can put gummy worms or maggots made of fondant on the cake.
Have fun baking and enjoying!
