(ANSA) - VATICAN CITY, 02 NOV - "Unfortunately we must bitterly acknowledge how far we are from achieving the desired goals to combat climate change.
It must be said honestly: we cannot afford it!". The Pope says this in a Message to COP26 which was read at the Glasgow Conference by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin. "There is no more time to wait; by now, too many humans are suffering from this climate crisis", "we must act with urgency, courage and responsibility. Acting also to prepare a future in which humanity is able to take care of itself itself and of nature ", are the words of the Pope.
For Francis "the wounds brought to humanity by the Covid-19 pandemic and the phenomenon of climate change are comparable to those resulting from a global conflict. Just as in the aftermath of the Second World War, it is now necessary for the entire international community to prioritize implementation of collective, supportive and far-sighted actions ".
The Pontiff asked the most vulnerable countries to repay the "ecological debt" and stressed that "by now there are too many human faces suffering from this climate crisis: in addition to its increasingly frequent and intense impacts on the daily lives of many people, especially the populations vulnerable, we realize that it has also become a crisis of children's rights and that, in the short future, environmental immigrants will be more numerous than refugees from conflicts ".
