Facebook announces: "We will no longer use facial recognition"

Facebook will no longer use facial recognition for photos and videos on its platform.

Meta states this in a note underlining the need to evaluate the benefits and growing concerns about technology.

"In the coming weeks we will close the Face Recognition system on Facebook", reads a statement.

"We continue to see facial recognition technology as a tool," but there are also "growing concerns about its use" and authorities, Zuckerberg's company explains, have not yet offered clear rules.

Faced with this uncertainty, "we believe that limiting the use of facial recognition is appropriate".
