Last week, a traveler died on a plane from Istanbul to Hamburg.

The 51-year-old is said to have been infected with the corona virus.

"Pegasus Airlines" announced that the man had presented a confirmation of a full vaccination before the flight.

"In full compliance with the Covid-19 regulations between Germany and Turkey, the passenger was allowed to take the flight from Istanbul to Hamburg after providing evidence of his or her complete vaccination status," the airline said in a message from which several media outlets such as "Münchner Merkur" and the Quote editorial network Germany.

According to the company, all health and corona regulations were adhered to.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Turkey is a high-risk area.

Anyone traveling to Germany from there must be able to show proof of vaccination or recovery or a negative corona test.

The investigators assume that the 51-year-old man, who comes from the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, “died during the flight”.

In the meantime, it can be ruled out that the man had already been brought on board dead, it said on Monday.

Man was a solo traveler

The plane landed last Wednesday at around 1 p.m.

When the passengers disembarked, the lifeless man was discovered.

"The man was traveling alone, he had a window seat," said a police spokesman.

Perhaps he had his head ajar and his eyes closed, which is why his death was not noticed during the trip and he was taken for a sleeper, the spokesman continued.

The "Hamburger Abendblatt" reported that the man apparently had serious previous illnesses.

According to the newspaper, a forensic doctor had detected the corona virus during a preliminary examination of the body.

The police spokesman said that third-party negligence could be ruled out.

One assumes a natural cause of death, an autopsy did not take place.

Why the man traveled to Turkey and how long he stayed there is unclear.
