The number of corona cases in Germany is rising rapidly again.

In supermarkets there are currently rules that can be tightened again in November.

Frankfurt - Autumn is here, the Corona * case numbers are rising again on time.

In the past few days, the Robert Koch Institute has increasingly reported the drastic increase in new corona infections *.

So it is hardly surprising that the measures and rules could be adapted to contain the infection rate - this also applies to the supermarkets.

The reaction to the increase in the number of cases took place last.

Some federal states such as Hesse and Lower Saxony are now relying on 2G regulations, for example in gastronomy, culture and also in sports.

2G means: only vaccinated and convalescent people are allowed access, a negative test is no longer sufficient.

But will this change also extend to supermarkets such as Aldi, Lidl, Rewe and Edeka in November?

Corona rules at Aldi, Lidl, Rewe and Edeka - is the 2G option coming soon?

The decision is only a few weeks old.

The 2G rule can also be used in retail in Hesse and Lower Saxony *.

Supermarkets such as Aldi or Lidl can now also make use of this corona rule.

The mask requirement and the distance rules indoors would then be omitted.

It is up to every operator whether supermarkets and discounters make use of the 2G rule.

An implementation of the 2G rule in supermarkets would of course also mean that unvaccinated people would no longer be able to shop with providers who switch to 2G.

In the meantime, some supermarket chains have commented on the subject.

Kaufland, for example, emphasized in a statement: “As a food retailer who ensures basic supplies, we are not affected by the 2G regulation.

We will not implement this either in or outside of Hesse.

The well-known distance and hygiene rules as well as the mask requirement still apply in our branches. "

Similar tones were recently heard from other providers on the subject of 2G.

Lidl explained the 2G option *: “As a grocery retailer that ensures basic supplies, we are not affected by the 2G rule.

We will not implement this either in or outside of Hesse.

The well-known distance and hygiene rules as well as the mask requirement still apply in our branches. "

Corona measures in the supermarket: Discounters comment on a possible 2G rule

A spokesman for the discounter Aldi also announced that it did not want to implement 2G.

"Excluding individual customer groups from purchasing would fundamentally contradict our self-image as a reliable basic supplier," explained the Aldi representative.

Even at Edeka, the implementation of the 2G rule does not seem to be an option.

“We want to continue making it possible for everyone to shop at Edeka.

Therefore, the 2G regulation is not an option for us. "

2G rule in the supermarket from November?

Providers take a stand

One thing is clear: Implementing the 2G rule in supermarkets would exclude some of the customers, which would result in a loss of sales.

Loss of sales, which most food companies - as of now - do not want to accept.

In addition, the German trade association told the Funke media group that vaccination passport controls would take far too much time.

However, it is questionable what will happen if the number of corona cases continues to rise in November.

Supermarkets such as Aldi, Lidl or Rewe are still free to implement 2G after all - at least in Hesse and Lower Saxony.
