At the age of 87, he is France's oldest prisoner: Tommy Recco, who has been behind bars for two triple murders since 1983, must remain in prison.
A court in Bastia on the Mediterranean island of Corsica rejected the serial killer's 21st application for release.
This was reported by the Corse Matin newspaper.
Recco had submitted health reasons for his application.
The judiciary still considers him dangerous.
Before the conviction for the murder of three cashiers in 1979 and three members of a family in southern France in 1980, the prisoner had already been convicted of another murder in 1962, but was released early in 1977.
According to the newspaper, he has spent a total of 58 years of his life in prison.
His lawyer is now considering a lawsuit before the European Court of Human Rights.
