Dave Gahan has fronted Depeche Mode since 1980.
41 years after it was founded, the singer feels happy and locked up in his band at the same time.
"We are prisoners in a very comfortable place to which we return voluntarily," said the 59-year-old to the magazine "Playboy" according to the announcement.
"We locked ourselves up."
With Depeche Mode, he delivered "mad shows" in 2017 and 2018.
They were at the height of their work.
"And we're not done yet - I think it will go on," said Gahan.
"Even if Depeche Mode is a bit like a zoo enclosure."
But the band members would know »where the holes in the fence are« that they sometimes bust out of.
"Then we walk around somewhere else and see what else the world has to offer," said Gahan.
"Something special created"
Depeche Mode is one of the most successful bands in the world and has sold more than 100 million records. Hits like “Black Celebration”, “People Are People”, “Walking in My Shoes”, “Personal Jesus” and “Enjoy the Silence” made the group famous especially in the eighties and nineties. Gahan, who was included in the lists of "100 Greatest Singers" and "100 Greatest Frontmen" by Q magazine, played a major role in this.
Gahan can also look back on an impressive solo career - which is now to be expanded by another chapter.
»Imposter« appears on November 12th.
The musician's new album features a collection of cover pieces from legends such as Neily Young, Bob Dylan and Charlie Chaplin.
The first song has already been released (see the video for "Metal Heart" here).
Fans can look forward to more songs, according to Gahan.
“I know we've created something special, and I hope that other people will sense that and that it will take them on a little journey.
Especially people who love music and have been for years, «said a press release on the latest project.
