A 27-year-old is on trial in Hamburg for allegedly stabbing a driver after an escalated dispute over wearing a mask.

He has no memories of the crime, said the defendant at the start of the trial.

"I have a complete tear in the film." He had previously drunk a lot of alcohol.

Therefore, he could not explain how it came about, but he was sorry.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the defendant of attempted manslaughter and dangerous physical harm.

According to the prosecution, the man, very drunk, approached the later victim at his van near the Legienstrasse underground station on May 8th.

He spoke to the driver and asked for a cigarette.

He came so close that he asked him to keep his distance and put on mouth and nose protection.

Annoyed about this, the defendant knocked the door of the van twice against the injured person's foot - he then resisted.

Then there was a scuffle.

According to the prosecutor, the 27-year-old suddenly pulled a jackknife, stabbed the driver twice in the back and seriously injured him.
