The message is clear, straightforward.

"We are in France facing an epidemic recovery", launched this Friday Jean Castex from the hospital in Montpellier (Hérault) where he was traveling.

"The situation in the hospital has stopped improving", he continued, assuring that "the time has not come to let down the guard" while Parliament validated this morning the possible recourse to health pass until the end of July 2022.

"More than 88.5% of the population is now vaccinated", further noted the Prime Minister. "Excellent figures", especially in comparison with many countries in Eastern Europe, where the epidemic is soaring. However, "6.8 million French, including 1.3 million over 65 of our fellow citizens have not yet received a dose," recalled Jean Castex. And the Prime Minister to launch a call for "general mobilization around vaccination", specifying that France does "absolutely not lack doses".

As the Elysee said to us this Friday morning, Emmanuel Macron should also speak soon: "The president will come back to the French in the fall as he committed to on July 12".

Olivier Véran wanted to be reassuring on Twitter, stressing that "whatever the epidemic in store for us, France will have the means to react and protect our fellow citizens".

Among the avenues mentioned by specialists or already in place: the return of the mask to school in certain departments, the maintenance of the health pass or the expansion of the booster dose.

WHO is concerned about the evolution of the epidemic in Europe

After months of decline, the epidemic is regaining ground in Europe.

Germany seems particularly affected: health authorities on Thursday recorded a record number of new infections, with 33,949 additional cases in 24 hours.

The previous record was reached on December 18, 2020, with 33,777 new infections.

This resumption of the epidemic in Germany worries beyond its borders.

The World Health Organization was alarmed on Thursday at the "very worrying" rate of transmission of Covid-19 in Europe.

A circulation that could lead to half a million additional deaths on the continent by February, estimates the organization.
