"To you who I never knew, but who gave me an important part of you".

With these words Giuseppe Rossetti, 27, wanted to dedicate his degree thesis in Civil Engineering to those who, 14 years ago, in January 2007, gave him a kidney allowing him, thanks to a transplant to the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital, to go back to living a normal life.

A way to raise awareness on organ donation, which also represents hope for many young people like him who are still waiting.

"I wanted to dedicate the thesis to a person, I imagine a boy or a girl like me, who - Giuseppe says to ANSA - gave me a part of himself that allowed me to reach this goal. gesture that I made spontaneously, as happened for the three-year degree thesis in which I wanted to thank the Child Jesus, in particular Dr. Luca Dello Strologo, head of the Kidney Transplant Follow-up Operative Unit ".

Before the transplant, which took place when he was 12 years old, Giuseppe had been operated on just after birth, had received therapies some of which were experimental and had dialysis in the 6-7 months that preceded the operation which then changed his life.

His time to devote himself to activities similar to those of his peers and to study was therefore reduced: now he proudly explains that he can do everything, from playing to a simple walk and this also taking into account that even nutrition is no longer a big problem . "I was operated on in January - Giuseppe continues - during the night: when they called my mother to announce that the transplant was taking place, I was excited and at the same time terrified: it was quite a big operation". Over time, there has also been a growing awareness of how much this gesture of generosity has changed his life for the better.

"Choosing to donate organs is an important gesture, maybe you can also think of it in view of Christmas as a gift to yourself and to others - he concludes - in my case not just a kidney was donated, but a hope. A hope. of life to four people and four families ".
