Ilya Repin: the history of Russia in a hundred tables

The Petit Palais is organizing the first retrospective in France of this prestigious Russian painter (1844-1930), who mastered the art of portraiture wonderfully and admirably represented in his work the political and social upheavals of his country.


It falls into the category of exhibitions that make a lasting impression. For this reason, we cannot congratulate the initiators of the retrospective “Ilya Répine. Painting the Russian soul ”, organized at the Petit Palais, to honor this realistic painter so brilliant and yet so little known in France. In total: around a hundred works, of almost similar beauty and of exceptional historical significance, from the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the Art Museum of the Helsinki Ateneum. An unprecedented sum (and that we no longer expected!) Brought together under the aegis of the director of the premises, Christophe Leribault, Stéphanie Cantarutti, chief curator of 19th century paintings at the Parisian establishment, and Tatiana Yudenkova,head of the department of paintings (19th and 20th centuries) at the Tretyakov Gallery.
