It's already very Christmas for Mariah Carey: "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is back in the charts, a TV special is coming up - and a new festive single has already been released.

She had warned us: On November 1st, right after Halloween, Mariah Carey published a small video via Twitter in which she smashed a pumpkin in a red glitter costume.

It was her way of communicating that her time has begun - the part of the year that the singer intends to rule as "Queen of Christmas".

With “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, Mariah Carey wrote by far the most successful Christmas song of the past 30 years.

Every year he climbs back into the charts;

from year to year you get the feeling (and at least it's already back on the US iTunes charts).

A warning sign on the jukebox of a bar in Texas was already causing a stir: "All I Want" will be skipped if it is selected before December 1st - and then only tolerated once per evening.

But now Carey has made an alternative offer himself: On Friday the song "Fall In Love At Christmas" was released, which the 52-year-old presented together with the young R&B interpreter Khalid and the gospel musician Kirk Franklin.

"Fall In Love At Christmas" is a ballad in which Carey initially holds back, only after 45 seconds her singing can be heard at all.

The wish in the text to find love again at Christmas fits in with her childhood memories, which she describes in the autobiography, which will also be published in German on Tuesday.

At that time, the estranged family only got back together for Christmas, which they looked forward to as the youngest - only to be disappointed by disputes that broke out.

In the new song, Mariah Carey wishes that healing and consolation could be found “for our troubled minds”.

The song climbs to a dramatic climax with a lot of gospel influence, typical Carey voice acrobatics and praying together for love for all of humanity.

The music video shows the three artists in a Christmas decorated living room by the crackling fireplace.

Draped in the background are numerous trophies from Mariah Carey's successful career.

In the autobiography Carey reports that as a child she always fled into a fantasy world at Christmas, which then formed the basis for her hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You", first published in 1994.

According to the latest information, the song has received 938 million views on the Spotify streaming service - and the trend is steadily increasing, and more than the also extremely popular “Last Christmas” by Wham !.

After 26 years, Carey's song reached number 1 on the UK charts in 2020.

The US singer was also successful with “Oh Santa!” From 2010, which she re-released the previous year with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson.

The song came from a Christmas special that Carey had produced for the streaming service Apple TV +.

For December Apple has already announced a new TV special entitled "Mariah's Christmas: The Magic Continues", to which the new song "Fall In Love At Christmas" is a harbinger.

In this real Christmas fantasy world, little is left to chance.
