A tanker explodes in Sierra Leone, at least 99 dead

At least 99 people died following the explosion last night in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, caused by the collision between a tanker full of fuel and a truck at a service station. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 06 - At least 99 people died following the explosion that took place last night in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, caused by the collision between a tanker full of fuel and a truck in a service station.

The wounded hospitalized are about a hundred.


    The fire that broke out after the explosion spread throughout the surrounding neighborhood, causing victims in the cars and in several adjacent streets.

According to a rescuer's reconstruction, most of the victims were street vendors and motorcyclists who were killed while trying to recover fuel leaking from the tanker.
