Novak Djokovic adds another record to his impressive list of firsts.

With the final reached in Paris-Bercy thanks to the victory in the semifinal over the Polish Hubert Hurkacz (3-6, 6-0, 7-6) he has ensured the mathematical certainty of closing the seventh year as world number 1.

In the final the Serbian will face Daniil Medvedev in a sort of rematch of the US Open final (the Russian beat the German Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-2).

Since computerized ranking has existed, no one has completed so many seasons with the scepter of the best in the world.

The Serbian has detached Pete Sampras who maintains the record of consecutive seasons from number 1, six from 1993 to 1998.

"I am proud of this result, trying to finish the season as number 1 in the ATP ranking is always one of the biggest goals at the beginning of each year," said Djokovic. "Doing it for seven years and surpassing my idol Pete Sampras is incredible."

At 34, Djokovic is the oldest to close a year from number 1. He improves himself, in this case, beating the record he set himself a year ago. This result certifies the dominance of the Fab Four. In the last 18 seasons, in fact, only they have managed to finish a season at the top of the rankings: seven times Djokovic, five Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, one Andy Murray.

Djokovic also boasts the record for weeks from number 1 in the ranking. On November 22, the Monday following the Nitto ATP Finals, will have reached 348.
