After almost two months without restrictions, Denmark will reintroduce the health pass due to the sharp rise in the number of C cases

Life without a health pass will not have lasted more than two months in Denmark.

With one of the highest vaccination coverage in the world, the Nordic country no longer imposed the health pass in the vast majority of public places since September 10.

Already in August, the authorities had removed the mask.

But faced with the "very worrying" resurgence of the epidemic in Europe, in particular in the east of the continent, according to the WHO, the government had no other choice but to reinstate this highly symbolic and contested measure.

After almost two months without restrictions, Denmark will reintroduce the health pass because of the sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, the Prime Minister announced on Monday.

Government authorities made the mistake of not reinstating it at the first signs of a rebound.

The result: the number of daily cases quadrupled in one month.

“The Epidemics Commission recommended that the government classify the coronavirus as a societal threat disease and re-impose the coronapass.

The government will follow this recommendation, ”said Head of Government Mette Frederiksen at a press conference.

More than 2,000 new cases on Monday

At the end of last week, the health authorities warned of a risk of seeing the country's hospitals "overloaded" because of the "risk of Covid-19, flu and other infectious diseases.

Health authorities expected more people to be infected (with Covid) and hospitalized, but things happened faster than expected ”.

On Monday, for the fifth day in a row, more than 2,000 new cases were reported in the Nordic kingdom of 5.8 million inhabitants, where 36 people are hospitalized in intensive care.

The health pass must be reintroduced, in particular in bars and restaurants and nightclubs.

The issue is expected to be debated in the coming days in the country.

“We can live with the coronapass.

It allows you to have peace of mind when you go to the cinema or to a concert, ”assured the Prime Minister.

Its reintroduction will make daily life "more difficult for those of you who are not vaccinated."

This is how I think it should be ”.

In Denmark, 85.9% of those over 12 received two doses of the vaccine.
