The man who this morning attacked a police officer with a knife in front of a police station in Cannes, southern France, saying he was acting "in the name of the prophet", had an "Italian residence permit"
: that's what sources of the French police cited by the broadcaster LCI report.
Also according to information collected by the broadcaster, the man is called Lakdar B. born in 1984 in Algeria.
It was hitherto unknown to the police services.
"According to the French media, the Algerian who attacked a policeman with a knife this morning in Cannes would have an Italian residence permit. We ask for immediate clarity from the Interior Ministry, especially since the memory of the Nice bomber of a year ago and that he had landed a few weeks earlier in Lampedusa ". League leader Matteo

"The track of terrorism is being evaluated", said on Twitter the French Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, referring to the attack of the policeman which took place at 6.30 in front of the Cannes police station. The attacker opened the door of the car where the officer was and gave him a stab "in the chest". He then tried to attack another person in the car, but was seriously injured by another policeman.
The man was unable to injure the policeman he had targeted as the officer was protected by the bulletproof vest.
This was confirmed by the Minister of the Interior.
The individual, according to BFM TV, targeted a police car with three officers on board.
He began his attack by stabbing the policeman who was behind the wheel and shouting phrases praising the "Prophet".
He then went around the vehicle and attempted to stab a second policeman who was on board.
He was the third, at that point, to take up his service weapon and fire, seriously injuring the attacker.
