Stricter rules in Bavaria: what is changing in supermarkets?

The supermarket chain Tegut took a clear stand against the move. You don't see the need to change the hygiene concepts of the markets. "If someone - for whatever reason - does not want to be vaccinated, he remains a part of our society and must not be excluded when shopping for food," assured a spokesman in October. A Lidl * spokesman also made it clear: "We will not introduce any 2G regulation in our branches." Rewe * and Kaufland * made similar statements. Customers still have to keep their distance, wear masks and adhere to hygiene rules.

The fact that only vaccinated and Genesis supermarkets are allowed to enter is so far only legally allowed in two federal states.

The state governments in Lower Saxony and Hesse created the conditions for the 2G model in supermarkets and discounters in October.

The trade association (HDE) spoke out in favor of a Germany-wide 2G option model in retail based on the Hessian model.

"It is good when retailers have the option of how they want to deal with the topic of 2G or 3G as a prerequisite for access to their stores," said CEO Stefan Genth to the

"It is important that this remains voluntary, because a 2G or 3G obligation when shopping would not be feasible in practice, especially for shops with high customer frequency, such as food or clothing."
