(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, 08 NOV - The Smyrna Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation against the latest novel by the Turkish Nobel prize-winning writer Orhan Pamuk for alleged insults contained in the text against the founder of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa KemalAtaturk. The investigation was opened following the complaint of Tarcan Uluk's lawyer according to which 'Veba Geceleri' ('Lenotti della pleste', in Turkish, forthcoming in Italy) would contain not only insults to Ataturk, considered a crime in Turkey, but also incitements to hatred.
"I have not written anything that has implications with Ataturk and I do not accept the allegations," the writer told the public prosecutor as reported by various Turkish media.
The statement that triggered the investigation also refers to some statements about Kurds and Armenians that Pamuk released to a Swiss newspaper and for which he had already been put on trial in the past on similar charges.
