After two years of Covid in which art had taken refuge on the web, the public returns to live the cultural experience and Pirelli HangarBicocca, presenting the two-year program 2022-2023, confirms its commitment to making art open and accessible to all, with 8 monographic exhibitions "with an unprecedented and experimental look" to offer "a multifaceted radical analysis of reality, bringing to light issues such as the environment and climate change, a sense of belonging and community, political resistance and care for the other", issues whose urgency emerged during the pandemic.

"These were difficult times, which made us postpone many exhibitions, but we have not cut the program" recalls the artistic director of Pirelli HangarBicocca, Vicente Todolí, and after two postponements the exhibition of the Korean Anicka Yi (Metaspore) finally opens from February 17 , over twenty works created from 2010 to today together with the production of a new version (created in collaboration with scientists from the Bicocca University) of the work Biologizing the Machine (terra incognita), presented at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 in which uses bacteria to color the earth.

All the selected artists got involved by accepting the challenge that the Hangar always launches. "These are exhibitions that enter into a profound dialogue with the space, capable of transmitting to the visitor the different expressive modes of the artists, the most historicized in the aisles, the youngest in the Shed" explains Todolì. "There is even more harmony with the city - underlines Marco Tronchetti Provera, CEO of Pirelli who had made the Hangar spaces available for the vaccination hub - with new food for thought, we have given proof of excellence for which we thank all those who have dealt with it and also those who, under the guidance of Todolì and Roberta Tenconi, have always moved forward with passion ".

McQueen (from March 31st), known as a filmmaker who uses the screen to sculpt space, will alternate in the space of the Navate; Ann Veronica Janssens (from 6 April 2023) whose works, created with intangible elements such as smoke and fog, aim to disorient the senses; and James Lee Byars (from October 2023), one of the most recognized artists of the 1960s. In the space of the Shed instead Dineo Seshee Bopape (from 6 October 2022);Gian Maria Tosatti (from 23 February) who works on the concepts of collectivity and memory creating large installations for entire buildings or urban areas and brings a retrospective to HangarBicocca - a project on which the artist has been working for over two years - with various installations and historical works within a new large environmental intervention that will radically transform the space by manipulating it and giving the viewer the opportunity to confront a new dimension. Finally, Thao Nguyen Phan (from September 2023) reflects on environmental and social changes with a dreamlike visual language.
