Léon, a very premature baby, had to make a long trip to Paris by ambulance because he did not have all his papers to take an Air Fran flight

Little baby, your papers please!

A family from Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine) has just experienced anguished days with their son Léon, 3 months old, who could not take the plane from Nice, where this very premature baby has been hospitalized since his birth this summer, for emergency eye surgery in Paris.

The medical repatriation, managed by the Riviera hospital L'Archet directly with Air France, encountered a problem of identity papers.

“At that age, he hasn't been issued an identity card yet.

We declared it and had the birth certificate extract but that was obviously not enough, ”says Nicolas, the father.

Additional bad luck, the parents, present in Nice but returning to Paris on their own, were not in possession of the family record book remained in the Paris region.

Faced with this imbroglio, the Nice hospital finally decided to transfer the child by ambulance on Monday so as not to wait any longer.

"When he arrived, he had to be put back on oxygen"

“He drove from 5 am to 3:30 pm.

He had not been on oxygen for a few days.

When he arrived, we had to give it to him because he was tired.

By plane, it might have been able to prevent him from that, ”sighs the mother.

Air France says today "understand the emotion of the family".

"However, we must have special vigilance when a child travels alone," adds the press service, which specifies that repatriation was still scheduled for Tuesday when the company learned of the departure of the baby in an ambulance.

For the couple, the priority is now Leon's operation in the capital.

“It is so stressful to be the parent of a very premature child.

Leon saw his vital prognosis engaged when he was born weighing 530 g, confide the father and mother.

He's better now.

We have not experienced the greatest injustice but we want to act so that there is more flexibility for the next parents who would have to go through that.
