A second season is planned for the Netflix series "Squid Game".

That said director Hwang Dong-hyuk at a celebration for the series in Los Angeles on Monday.

There has been so much positive feedback and so many requests for a sequel, says Hwang: "I almost have the feeling that you don't give us any other choice."

When the second season will come and what it will look like, the Hwang did not announce.

"I'm in the planning phase right now," he said.

"I promise you that Gi-hun will come back and do something for the world."

Successful and controversial

No sequel to "Squid Game" was originally planned.

Most of the television series in South Korea end after one season.

The streaming service Netflix has not yet announced a second season.

»Squid Game« is one of the most successful and controversial streaming series of the year.

According to Netflix, the capitalism dystopia from South Korea was number one on the charts in 90 countries.

It is therefore the most successful series in the group.

In the series, hundreds of people are so desperate for money that they agree to compete in a series of children's games with fatal outcomes.

According to information provided by educators, children partially act out the scenes.

Schools therefore demanded that the series only be released from the age of 16.
