In the case of alleged rape in a hospital in Bielefeld, the Duisburg public prosecutor has reopened the investigation.
The authority announced on Wednesday.
An assistant doctor is said to have drugged and raped patients on duty.
Alleged victims are said to have informed the doctor's superiors about the allegations in 2019.
However, these should not have checked the information and thus enabled further actions.
After the doctor killed himself while in custody, the Bielefeld public prosecutor closed the investigation against him.
On behalf of the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Justice, the Duisburg public prosecutor is now reviewing the case again for new investigative approaches against the superiors.
This involves allegations of suspicion of aiding and abetting rape through omission.
