A tongue of lava ejected from the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, came into contact with the sea at a new point with respect to the previously created volcanic delta.
This was announced by the Spanish Ministry of Transport with an image widespread on social media.
In the previous hours, other Spanish institutions had published several videos and photos documenting the approach of the magma to the coast.
The new contact point is located a few meters from the previous one.
Contact between lava and the sea can cause clouds of water vapor with particles of hydrochloric acid, which can be harmful.
The areas near this point where the lava tongues of the erupting volcano flow have already been evacuated for weeks.
