Tougher fight against illegal fishing in the Mediterranean and Black Sea and, for the Adriatic, a multi-year plan for the management of anchovy and sardine stocks, a further reduction of the fishing effort for the main demersal stocks (cod, hake, cuttlefish, mullet) and new fishing restricted areas. These are the elements of the new 2030 strategy adopted by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (Gfcm) for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
The EU will support the implementation of the Strategy with more funds, said Commissioner for the Environment and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius.
"The new GFCM 2030 strategy provides the framework and tools necessary to ensure a sustainable, fair and inclusive future for our fleets and our local communities, protecting the ecosystems of the region - he said - we must act quickly and decisively".
