To the palm clinic belonging to the orthopedic department of Schneider Hospital for Pediatrics, children from birth to age 18, who suffer from various problems in the upper limbs, such as fractures, amputations, nerve injuries, sports injuries and birth defects, come. One of the challenges in the clinic's treatment is in the diagnosis itself - children up to the age of 9 will usually cooperate in a test that is supposed to examine the function of the palm, in order to tailor the treatment personally and effectively. The solution came from an unexpected direction.

In recent weeks, a girl came to the clinic with Popit, who she had brought from home, with whom she played while waiting in line, and at the end of the visit she forgot in one of the rooms.

The next day Dr. Assaf Kadar, a senior hand surgeon at the Schneider Hand Clinic, offered another girl who came to the clinic to play Poppit, which caused a great deal of interest among the other children who also requested the game. Dr. Kedar noticed that the children playing Poppit were actually performing What was required of them in the test - to move the palm and fingers, and found that beyond being a game and a distraction, it is a diagnostic tool for everything.

"While working in the clinic, I find the use of the children's game Poppit a very useful tool for examining children in a palm clinic," explains Dr. Assaf Kedar.

The other advantage is that it is something that alleviates the fear of the doctor a little and builds trust and confidence for the next meeting. "

Dr. Kadar adds that "the poppy contributes greatly to harnessing the children for cooperation, for example a three-year-old girl who came to the clinic with a partial amputation in her hand refused to cooperate and did not want to look or move the injured hand.

"After we brought her the poppy, she started playing with it and by the end of the session she had already used her hand well, ticked off the game and was able to look at her injury and not be afraid of it."

Dr. Kedar says there is only one problem with using the game, recently.

"At the end of the session, I usually have to take the game from the child, which is often accompanied by tears. Fortunately, we recently received a large donation of poppies from Yair's Gift House, and I plan to use them in the clinic and at the end of the session to give them as a gift to children."
