There was damage to the building, but no injuries: there was an explosion on Wednesday night on the premises of the armaments company Rheinmetall in Unterlüß in Lower Saxony.
The detonation occurred around two o'clock in an ammunition bunker, said the police in Celle.
Stocks stored in the ammunition bunker were therefore distributed over large parts of the factory premises and in an adjacent public forest as a result of the detonation.
Doors, windows and walls within a radius of around 200 meters were partially damaged by the pressure wave.
However, surrounding houses and a railway line remained intact.
The "Cellesche Zeitung" reported that the explosion could still be heard and felt in the villages of Herrmannsburg and Eschede, some 15 kilometers away.
The area around the scene of the accident was initially cordoned off in order to exclude further dangers.
The police determined the extent of the explosion using a helicopter and a drone.
The works fire brigade was on site.
What triggered the explosion was initially unclear.
The police were supported in the investigation by the State Criminal Police Office.
There are no indications of an attack or sabotage.
All other bunkers on the site have been checked and are safe.
