Traffic offenders have had to pay higher fines in Germany since November 9th.
We have listed the most important information.
Berlin - After a long political dispute, the new catalog of fines came into force on Tuesday, November 9th.
Violations of the rules in road traffic will be punished much more severely in the future, especially driving at excessive speed could be dearly for one or the other.
There are also higher fines for those who illegally park on sidewalks and cycle paths, stop unauthorized on protective lanes or park and stop in the second row.
New catalog of fines: sinners have to dig deep into their pockets
Speeding offenders now have to buckle up in the truest sense of the word on Germany's streets, it will be particularly expensive for them: The previous
warning
fines
for exceeding
up to 20 km / h have been doubled in the new catalog of fines.
If you exceed a speed limit of up to 10 km / h in an urban area, you have to pay EUR 30 instead of EUR 15, if you exceed a speed of 11-15 km / h EUR 50 instead of EUR 25, and between 16 and 20 km / h EUR 70 instead of EUR 35.
Drivers who do not
use
an emergency lane
or
who do not
use it face a fine of 200 to 320 euros, in the worst case even a month's driving ban. Anyone who parks their
vehicle in the general no-stopping or parking ban
will pay 55 instead of 15 euros in the future. The same applies to
unauthorized parking
in a parking lot for electrically powered vehicles and car sharing vehicles.
Drivers who use
sidewalks, cycle paths and hard shoulders in violation of
the
regulations
are relieved by up to 100 euros
.
Until the change, such an offense would have cost around 25 euros.
Even truck drivers are not spared in the new catalog of fines: If the obligation to
only
drive
walking
pace in town when
turning right is
neglected, 70 euros are due, and the driver in Flensburg will be credited one point.
Political dispute over a new catalog
According to politicians, the tightened catalog of fines is to be understood as a clear signal to speeding motorists.
“We know that excessive speed is the most common cause of accidents.
The catalog of fines and road traffic regulations are ultimately traffic-educational measures for mutual consideration, ”explained the chairman of the conference of transport ministers, Maike Schaefer (Greens).
The change in the StVO had dragged on for months and led to a dispute between the responsible parties.
Due to a formal error, stricter rules on fines had already been suspended last year.
As a result, a political dispute arose, especially about the actually planned tougher driving ban rules when driving too fast - but these are not coming.
Instead, the federal and state governments agreed to increase fines.
The Federal Council unanimously approved the tightening in October.
