"It almost seemed we had no other choice, we had to continue with the story."
Squid Game director and creator Hwang Dong-hyukh has announced that the most viewed series ever on Netflix but also at the center of many debates, will return with a second season.
Given the series' global success, he confirmed this to The Associated Press during a screening and Q&A session in Los Angeles for the Korean drama, which has become a global phenomenon for Netflix in recent months.
"There was so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season ... It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning stage right now."
But he didn't give any other details, adding: "I think it's too early to say when and how it will happen. I promise you this: Seong Gi-hun will come back and do something for the world."
Netflix hasn't made any official announcements yet.
The series, starring Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun and an ensemble cast, centers on people desperate for cash who agree to take part in a series of games with a deadly outcome.
The dystopian survival drama has become Netflix's biggest hit.
