Footballer, astronaut, actor ... Behind the dreams of teenagers, what jobs are turning to young people who are entering working life?

The statistical department of the Ministry of Labor, the Dares, has established the classification of occupations in which the proportion of "

young leavers

" from studies (that is to say, employed persons under the age of 35 who have completed their initial studies since one to four years) was highest in 2018.

In the top five, we find cultural and sporting professionals, hotel and restaurant employees, computer engineers, salespeople, and unskilled handling workers.

This list has changed little in ten years: computer engineers, handling workers and hotel and restaurant employees have gained places to the detriment of cashiers and self-service employees, computer technicians and paramedical professions. .

Upward shift in the level of recruitment

La Dares carried out the analysis taking into account the level of education. Thus, it is the job of unskilled worker in handling that gives pride of place to young people without diplomas. As regards the holders of a CAP or a BEP, they are "

seven times more present among butchers, pork butchers, bakers than in all trades

" and "

five times more often nursing assistants

" . As for the holders of the baccalaureate or the professional certificate, they are mainly found among professionals of cultural action, employees and supervisors of the hotel and restaurant industry.

The study underlines that "

certain trades of bac + 2 -

nurses, IT technicians, banking and insurance

- slide towards recruitment to bac + 3

". The nursing diploma, reclassified in 2009 from bac + 2 to bac + 3, was in 2007 the first profession for young graduates of bac + 2, it became in 2018 that of bac + 3, notes the Dares.

Young people who recently graduated from a bac + 5 or more occupy highly qualified professions: engineers, construction managers, legal professionals.

Employment in these professions has accelerated "

despite the health crisis

": + 12% in 2020 against + 8% in 2019, especially "

among computer engineers and building managers, who are among the most tense professions on the market of work

”, according to Dares.
