Irn-Bru is one of the most popular soft drinks in Scotland. It was offered to guests at the climate summit in Glasgow - with mixed reactions. Now the US MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez filmed herself drinking.

It was a first for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The US MP for the Democrats had never tried the soft drink Irn-Bru.

Not surprisingly, it is particularly popular in Scotland;

there it is considered a kind of national drink.

Now, however, the MEP is currently in the country, she is attending the climate summit in Glasgow.

And apparently Ocasio-Cortez also heard of the hype surrounding the drink.

In the convention center in Glasgow, where the climate summit is being held, Irn-Bru is on offer (as opposed to, for example, Coca Cola or Fanta).

The background to this is a deal between the manufacturing company AG Barr and the hall owners, as reported by the British Guardian, among others.

Numerous summit participants were able to enjoy the orange drink.

"I'm Addicted" vs. "Pretty Shocking"

"This is my first time in Scotland," the Guardian quotes Dreli Solomon, a summit participant from Vanuatu.

“I've never seen the drink before.

Now I've tried it and I'm addicted. "Azeez Abubakar, a climate activist from Nigeria, quoted the newspaper as saying:" This has been my main drink since I've been in Scotland. "

Irn-Bru does not go down well with everyone, however.

“Is that lemonade?

Is it cola?

Is it alcohol

It doesn't even say what it is.

I don't understand, ”said Malaika Doucelline Rousseau of Rwanda after her first sip, according to the report.

“It's not very good.

It's like water with a lot of sugar and a little bit of flavor. "

The German Michael Büchl was also skeptical about you.

The Guardian quotes him as saying that his head told him he would get used to it.

"The first sip was pretty shocking." It would certainly not be his favorite drink, and he would probably never drink it outside of Scotland either.

"But it just becomes part of the experience."

But back to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

So she wanted to try Irn-Bru too.

Apparently she did not succeed in getting a can at first, as she said.

Fortunately, the Scottish Prime Minister came to the rescue in person.

Nicola Sturgeon posted a photo on Twitter of handing a can to Ocasio-Cortez.

She wrote: "In addition to all the serious business today at COP26, I am pleased to report that AOC now has a supply of Irn-Bru."

And how did the US MP react after her first sip?

"Oh my god, I love it, love it," she says in a video from her Irn Bru premiere that she published on her Instagram account.

“It has momentum.

Will bring a few cans back to New York for sure. "

Irn-Bru himself should be happy about all the hype.

A company spokesman said it was "phenomenal that Scotland's ginger nectar has attracted so much attention from delegates from around the world."

Ocasio-Cortez's video commented on the company with the words: "We are delighted that you enjoyed it."
